Cleans, maintains and stocks anesthesia workroom and anesthesia supplies in all operating rooms and satellite anesthetizing locations. Assists the anesthesia provider in the safe and efficient care of patients receiving anesthesia. Provides specialized airway equipment when requested by anesthesia provider. Provides support in anesthesia for routine and complex surgical cases. Involved during the administration of blood and blood products and/or provides ultrasound guidance for nerve blocks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform all the responsibilities of an anesthesia technician I on a daily basis
- Cleans and stocks anesthesia workroom, machines and supply carts. Cleans and stocks special procedure carts.
- Assists in anesthesia set up for procedures in all OR settings. Sets up and checks all required equipment is ready prior to the start of the case.
- Provides anesthesia items and equipment necessary for patient transport following each procedure and assists in transport when necessary.
- Removes soiled items from, wipes down and restocks anesthesia machine and cart following each procedure.
- Maintains inventory of anesthesia supplies and ensures equipment is properly stored. Orders, receives and stocks supplies in all anesthetizing locations.
- When scheduled cases are completed, prepares anesthesia machines and carts for use the following day.
- Provides routine troubleshooting of anesthesia machines and monitors. Reports malfunctions to supervisor and/or biomedical engineering department.
- Participates in training programs offered by the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine.
- Sets up and operates Cell Savage equipment and Rapid Infusion blood processing equipment during surgical procedures.
- Assists in insertion of invasive monitoring line.
- Prepares and assembles transducer lines and equipment necessary for invasive monitoring such as arterial lines and central venous line.
- Provides set up for complex, trauma and transplant cases.
- Participates in education and orientation of new staff.
- Ability to cover an off-site location.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
High School diploma/GED is required.
Some College / Associate’s Degree is preferred.
Experience:
A minimum of 1-2 year experience as an anesthesia technician is required.
Licensure/ Certifications:
BLS Certification is required.
Must have one of the following:
Cell Saver Certification
Regional Certification
Cardiac Anesthesia Competency
The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
